Objective To connect abandoned migrant children with the world through a Pen Pal system

• Challenge

  As they move from rural towns to urban cities in pursuit of economic opportunity, migrant workers are increasingly abandoning their children in their rural hometowns. Left to the care of distant relatives, these children often experience loneliness and emotional isolation.

• Solution

  The Blue Envelope team aims to create a pen pal system connecting college students to children of migrant workers in rural Hunan.
  After initial training for volunteers, our team will travel to the rural areas of Hunan province to meet and befriend children left behind by their migrant worker parents. We will start by understanding the children’s lives at school, as well as their situations at home. Once a rapport has been cultivated between a child and a volunteer, their relationship will be carried on through pen pal letters that we hope to extend over the years.
  Promotion and expansion of the program is our next step as we aim to connect with more children in other areas. We will produce relevant materials and case studies, hold school conferences, and host exhibitions to promote our work and raise awareness and interest for the program.
